Lula da Silva Government extends use of the National Force in the DF
The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) extended the use of the National Force in the Federal District. An ordinance by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, published in this Wednesday’s edition, 11, in the Official Gazette, extends the use of the corporation until January 19.
The use of the National Force (FN) in the DF, for three days, was authorized by Dino on Saturday the 7th, before the invasion and depredation of the buildings at “Praça dos Três Poderes”, on Sunday the 8th.
The FN will be used “to assist in the protection of public order and public and private property between the Brasília Bus Station and Praça dos Três Poderes, as well as in the protection of other assets of the Union located in Brasília, on an episodic and planned basis, in the period from January 10 to 19, 2023”, says the ordinance.

The extension was motivated by information obtained by the Ministry of Justice that a new demonstration was being organized for 6 pm this Wednesday, in Brasília, and in other Brazilian capitals. The organization of the protests would be being organized in a Telegram group.
According to the newspaper O Globo, due to the alleged threat, the Advocacy General of the Union (AGU) asked Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), to determine the adoption of “immediate, preventive and necessary measures” by the federal authorities and state governments to prevent any invasion of public buildings or roadblocks.
On Monday the 9th, the Ministry of Justice had already mobilized Military Police from the states of Ceará, Bahia, Piauí, Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte, Maranhão, Goiás and Rio Grande do Sul to be employed in the National Public Security Force to act in the actions to combat “the serious impairment of public order in Brasília, Federal District, until January 31, 2023”.
