Mayor of Rio de Janeiro confirms the city’s world-famous Carnaval in 2022

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Monday, June 22, the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, in an event in the western zone of Rio, ruled out, at least at first glance, that a trial run for the 2022 Carnaval could be held in November this year in the Sambódromo stadium, home of the samba schools parades.

According to him, it is practically impossible to hold any event in the Sambódromo in 2021. Although he denied “warming up” for the festivities, the mayor of Rio confirmed the Carnaval season in 2022.

The municipality expects that as the vaccination against Covid-19 progresses, the first major event in the city after the pandemic will be New Year’s Eve.

On Monday, Paes also reiterated that the test event in Paquetá will be only for residents of the island located in Guanabara Bay and that there will be surveillance to prevent the entry of tourists.

“We will hold the test event in Paquetá, only for the residents of Paquetá. Do not encourage those who imagine to take the ferry and go to Paquetá, they will not be able to. The only tourist who will go to Paquetá that day is me. We are yet to define what kind of event it will be,” affirmed the mayor.
