RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Jeanine Áñez, interim president of Bolivia’s Legislative Assembly, declared herself president of the country. Upon entering the Quemado Palace, the seat of government, she insisted on holding a Bible in her hand and declared: “The Bible returns to the palace”.
Luis Camacho, one of the opposition leaders who advocated Evo Morales’s resignation, along with Carlos Mesa, second in the fraudulent election, had already performed a “religious act” on the spot. They knelt down before the Bible and the country’s flag.
Morales, who was granted political asylum in Mexico, continues his saga of denouncing an alleged “coup” against him.
Brazil, through Chancellor Ernesto Araújo, became the first country to acknowledge Jeanine as interim president of Bolivia. Araújo said the “Bolivian constitutional order is being fulfilled”.
