Bolsonaro’s party wants to elect 1,000 mayors in 2024 to boost federal candidacies
The Liberal Party (PL), led by former president Jair Bolsonaro, has begun to articulate its strategy for the municipal elections of 2024.
The party aims to elect about 1,000 mayors nationwide to boost candidacies for the Federal Chamber.
According to political analysts, the strategy of electing mayors is a way to guarantee votes in the interior cities for Bolsonaro, should he decide to run for president again in 2026.

This is because the number of federal parliamentarians elected by the party determines the number of party funds, which would increase the party’s political strength.
The leaders of the PL believe that victory in the 2024 municipal elections will be a way to convert votes to Bolsonaro since many voters in the countryside identify with his conservative agenda.
In addition, the party will have to deal with the political polarization that has intensified in the country in recent years, which may make it difficult to win votes in regions where Bolsonaro’s opposition is stronger.
Even so, the PL is confident that its strategy can be successful.
