Airport security fee could yield US$14.7 million to Cape Verde
US$14.7 million is how much the Cape Verdean government expects to raise in 2023 with the Airport Security Fee, which was introduced in 2019 with the aim of bridging the end of mandatory visas for tourists.
The amount is part of the supporting documents for the State Budget proposal for 2023, approved by parliament and awaiting promulgation by the President of the Republic.

The sum, a total of Esc1,543,591,640 (US$14,725,293 dollars), will be applied to the expenses of the State Budget itself, in the amount of around Esc832 million (about US$7.9 million), and in the functioning of the Integrated Border Control System, with almost Esc712 million (about US$6.7 million), according to the same document.
If the Government’s prediction comes true, it will be an increase of more than 1,700% compared to 2021, taking into account that this rate yielded only 84.5 million escudos (778 thousand dollars) that year.
