The World Cup reaches its climax next week, and Latin America’s hopes rest on a single team. Between the semi-finals and Sunday’s final, Peru marks a step of its transition and Oaxaca opens its mezcal season.

The World Cup’s last week

The semi-finals fall on Tuesday in the Dallas area and Wednesday in Atlanta, before the final on Sunday, July 19 in the New York area. France are already through after beating Morocco.

Argentina’s place depends on Saturday’s quarter-final against Switzerland in Kansas City. Win, and the region’s last team plays the Wednesday semi-final.

Peru and Argentina’s dated events

Peru’s president-elect receives her credentials on Wednesday, July 15, at the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima, a formal step before the July 28 inauguration. Nothing changes for residents on the day.

In Argentina, June’s inflation figure lands on Tuesday, with private estimates near 1.8 to 1.9 percent. A sub-2 percent print would be the first since last August.

Culture across the hubs

Oaxaca opens its Feria del Mezcal on July 17, running to the end of the month, with the Guelaguetza’s first Lunes del Cerro following on July 20. It is the state’s biggest festival season.

Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Santiago and Montevideo keep their winter concert and theatre calendars running through the week. São Paulo returns to its museums after the endurance-racing weekend.
