Scandal in Chile: Famous Musician and Deputy Facing Allegations of Sexual Abuse

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Musician and Deputy Raúl Florcita Alarcón, also known as Florcita Motuda, is charged with repeated attacks and rape of a former couple with whom he had a two-year relationship. He is well-known for his flamboyant style for clothing and musical work, even when serving as Deputy.

The accusation will challenge the deputy after the denunciation has been formalized before the Chilean Investigative Police. The deputy, who declined to comment, resigned from his political party while also being investigated by the Ethics Commission of the National Congress.

The plaintiff declared that she was raped several times by Alarcón while she was sleeping and that he himself, the next day, recounted to her details bragging about the non-consensual sexual acts. She also stated that the deputy was fond of taking private pictures without her consent, which he then shared with third parties, including his chief of staff.

After the testimony was made public, the plaintiff, J.N., said that she has been criticized on social networks and has even been accused of being guilty of the abuses. “This whole situation has re-victimized me. I’ve read questions about why I didn’t report it before and that at 25 I wasn’t that young, but none about why he raped me. No questions about him, but all about the victim,” she says.

The interview with the details of his complaint was published by the online media “La voz de los que sobran”, in which it is stated that the first meeting with Alarcón occurred in 2008 and that at the time it was only a meeting at a café. Years later, in 2018, they met again after the deputy took office in the National Congress, at which time she congratulated him. It was then that they began a relationship.

How it all began

In the interview, J.N. accuses the deputy of repeated sexual abuse during the time they were a couple. The woman recounted instances in which he forced her to impersonate her younger sister while they were having sex and that he forced her to have threesomes with strangers and even penetrated her at night while she slept.

“I admired him, I was dazzled by his creative ability, I liked the song ‘Gente’. He was like a being with much light” says J.N. about what she felt at first for the fellow musician Florcita Alarcón. Although at first everything seemed normal in the relationship, as time went by, he began to show sexual interests that began to upset her. “At first he told me he wanted me to get pregnant, give me a child, but then he began to change into a controlling person. He would tell me how to dress, ask me to take off my underwear and bras. He wouldn’t let me drink Coca-Cola or smoke,” says the 35-year-old. “He began to change. He would sing to me and when he saw that I was more dependent, this change began, when he noticed that he had complete control over me. An emotional dependence began to develop, even I considered it normal, since I had never had a partner for a year or less,” she says.

“Role playing and threesomes”

The proposals ceased to be pleasant for her when he began to invite third parties to the relationship. “When he started asking me to act like my little sister during sex, and I felt that somehow my little sister was involved in a sexual relationship with me, it deeply disturbed me. I told him in tears, I couldn’t sleep that night. He would role play, pretend to be my brother-in-law, then tell me that my sister was touching me,” she said.

In her testimony, the woman says that the deputy gradually began to exercise greater control over her in her actions and decisions. Thus, he forced her to have sex with strangers, which he filmed and then showed to his closest circle, which included his chief of staff, to whom he sent the videos. “I accepted it, but every time we had it I couldn’t sleep, because it was a very macho thing. He was filming, but I didn’t feel anything for the other person. So it was strange. And I would tell him please don’t film, but he would film anyway. Then he would send the videos to his chief of staff and tell me that’s what men do.”

After the denunciation, the woman added that the Humanist Party, the group to which the deputy belonged and from which he resigned after the denunciation was made public, has been harassing her and her family. “I am afraid of losing my job. I am afraid of what he might do, because the Humanist Party has been harassing my family. He always told me that he had ten attorneys. He’s important, many people know him, many people love him, and I’m nothing compared to that,” she says.

Finally, the plaintiff commented that she once approached the National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SERNAMEG) for guidance and help. She filed the complaint with the support of her family, and at the government’s office for the defense of women’s rights they made her realize that her experiences were not normal.

For its part, the Julieta Kirkwood Feminist Bench, which comprises female deputies from different political parties in the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, issued a statement on the complaint. “The publication of photographs with intimate and sexual content of both deputy Alarcón and a woman, apparently without her consent for distribution, represents a tremendously violent act, which we categorically condemn,” she described.

The Prosecutor’s Office is in the process of collecting data provided by the Police to open judicial proceedings against the accused.
