The Bola Preta was just granted a new cultural centre on Rua da Relação — 1,200 square metres of space to preserve its legacy — and 2026 marks an especially significant year for the institution. Celebrities Maria Rita, Leandra Leal and Paolla Oliveira are confirmed to join the festivities this week.

This is one of the most atmospheric venues in Rio: samba and gafieira bands play on the main stage, a Salão Anexo runs a second programme of DJs and bateria acts, and the whole house fills with the energy of a city about to explode. The Scenarium runs through Tuesday the 17th with nightly programmes of samba, forró, marchinhas, and guest sambistas.

Tonight’s opening night sets the tone for what will be the most intense week of the year on Rua do Lavradio. The Scenarium traditionally launches with marchinhas and samba acts, followed by forró to close the night — check the house’s socials for the confirmed Thursday lineup. The Banda de Ipanema has always attracted an eclectic, creative crowd — artists, drag queens, families, tourists, locals. Thursday afternoon in Ipanema is a good time to catch it: the Saturday and Sunday editions are larger and more chaotic. Today you get the intimate version, in the golden light of a late Zona Sul afternoon.
