The second Cine Jazz session turns to the most controversial and creative period in Miles Davis’s career: the electric years. From 1969 to 1975, Davis detonated the conventions of jazz with albums that fused funk, rock, Indian music, and electronic experimentation — In a Silent Way (1969), Bitches Brew (1970), On the Corner (1972), Agharta and Pangaea (1975). The music scandalised jazz purists and created an entirely new vocabulary that influenced everything from funk and ambient to hip-hop and electronic music. Tonight’s screening presents a concert film from this electric period — followed by a live set from the Electric Miles Band featuring Guilherme Dias Gomes and Victor Biglione. Biglione is one of the most important guitarists in Brazilian rock — he played with Cazuza in the Barão Vermelho era, with Ney Matogrosso, with Lulu Santos, and has been a defining voice on the Brazilian guitar for four decades. Guilherme Dias Gomes is a guitarist, composer and producer whose work spans jazz, rock and Brazilian music. Together, they channel the electric Miles vocabulary — wah-wah, distortion, space, rhythm, the relentless pursuit of the new — into a Brazilian context on the Copacabana stage. From 8 pm. Tango · Jazz · Rock · Late

Violentango takes the 10:30 pm late session — a project that asks what happens when contemporary tango meets jazz, rock and free improvisation. The title alone — violent + tango — signals the intent: this is tango stripped of its nostalgic salon elegance and pushed into confrontation with modern instrumental music. The Blue Note’s Wednesday double bill thus offers a remarkable pairing: electric Miles at 8, electric tango at 10:30. Two genres pushed beyond their boundaries in a single evening. Samba · Gafieira · Reopens

The Rio Scenarium reopens tonight for its Wednesday–Saturday programme — the three-storey casarão on Rua do Lavradio returns after Tuesday’s dark. Wednesday at the Scenarium is the gentlest night of the week: the crowd is smaller, the three floors are navigable, and the samba plays to a midweek audience that has chosen to be here. Cover approximately R$30–40. The night runs 7 pm to 1 am. Book via Sympla or arrive before 8 pm for a table. With the Scenarium back, the full Lapa triangle — Scenarium, Gema, Beco — is now operational for the rest of the week through Saturday.

Bossa Nova · Lapa · Midweek

Bip Bip Wednesday bossa nova — the genre that grew from the same late-1950s Copacabana streets where the Bip Bip stands. The musicians gather from 8 pm on the pavement. Free, acoustic, honour-system. Five minutes from the Blue Note — the natural pairing with the Cine Jazz screening. Carioca da Gema runs its midweek show. Beco do Rato to midnight. Nova Capela kitchen late. The full Lapa triangle — Scenarium + Gema + Beco + Nova Capela — is now operational. The circuit at full power for the rest of the week.
