Peru Government will reinforce security in the capital in the midst of protests

The Peruvian authorities have announced this Tuesday a police reinforcement in the capital in the face of the so-called ‘Toma de Lima’, an anti-government demonstration that takes place this Wednesday.

The head of the Lima Region Police, General Víctor Zanabria, explained that during the day prior to the demonstration, the agents intervened several people who were traveling to participate in the protests, as indicated to the RPP radio station.

In addition, Zanabria has indicated that in the context of the marches there is “information and disinformation that distorts the data, since there are versions that indicate that 3,000 people would have arrived from the Andahuaylas region, a much higher number than that handled by the police.

In this sense, the general has warned that “among the people who would be traveling to Lima there are infiltrated people that the protesters themselves refer to”, for which the authorities are carrying out an identity check.

The President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, made an appeal hours before for “peace” and “calm” of the protesters, recalling that the protests are protected by the country’s Constitution “as long as they are peaceful.”
