More than 2 million tourists visited Chile in 2022 and left revenues for the sector of more than 9 billion dollars, the Undersecretariat of Tourism reported Tuesday.

Last year, the institution specified in a statement Chile registered 2,036,103 arrivals of foreign tourists, 971 percent more than in 2021 after the Government relaxed or eliminated the sanitary restrictions imposed by the new coronavirus pandemic.

The Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Kunze, explained in the text that “during 2022 tourism faced enormous challenges”.

“Since we took office, we have been working to recover this industry with a special focus on the lifting or relaxation of a series of sanitary restrictions to promote its reactivation”, she said.

The official remarked that “the coordinated effort with the Health authorities allowed a significant increase in the arrival of foreign tourists in the fourth quarter, which also allowed improving the initial projections”.

The Chilean gGovernmentprojected that in 2023 there would be 3,483,121 foreign tourist arrivals, an increase of 71 percent about 2022, which would mean reaching the levels of an average year.
