Mexican airline “Viva Aerobus” acquires 90 Airbus aircraft for almost US$12 billion
Low-cost Mexican airline “Viva Aerobus” has announced the signing of a letter of intent to purchase 90 Airbus A321neo aircraft.
The deal, which confirms previous reports, was made public on Wednesday.
The specific price of the aircraft was not disclosed, as Airbus no longer publishes catalog prices.
However, based on stock prices from 2018, the agreement is estimated to be worth around US$11.7 billion before industry-standard discounts.

This purchase expands Viva Aerobus’ existing order backlog to a total of 170 Airbus aircraft, all belonging to the A320 family.
The A321neo planes will be equipped with Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engines, which are certified to operate using up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
This aligns with the airline’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
In fact, Viva Aerobus recently signed an agreement with SAF manufacturer Neste to acquire 1 million liters of this fuel.
Airbus is scheduled to begin delivering the newly purchased aircraft in 2027, according to a statement by Pratt & Whitney.
Adding these aircraft will enhance Viva Aerobus’ fleet and support the airline’s operations and growth in the coming years.
Viva Aerobus, is fully owned by the largest bus company group in Mexico, IAMSA, and was co-founded by and invested in by Irelandia Aviation.
Based in Monterrey International Airport, Mexico. Viva Aerobus started operations in November 2006 with only one nonstop service.
It already offers more than 130 routes in more than 40 destinations serving Colombia, Cuba, the United States, and Mexico with more than 100,000 flights per year.
Its six bases are in Cancun, Mexico City, Mérida, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Tijuana.
