John McAfee alive in Texas? Ex-girlfriend makes stunning ‘conspiracy’ claim in new Netflix doc

McAfee was reported dead after hanging himself in a Spanish jail while awaiting U.S. extradition back in June 2021… But is he really dead?

The ex-girlfriend of the crypto proponent and tech mogul John McAfee, Samantha Herrera, claimed that the computer programmer is still alive and living in Texas, over a year after he reportedly committed suicide in a Spanish jail.

This is according to the upcoming Netflix documentary titled “Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee,” the New York Post reported on Aug. 23.

According to Herrera, McAfee, who died while awaiting U.S. extradition on tax evasion charges, faked his death while in Spain.

“I don’t know if I should say, but two weeks ago, after his death, I got a call from Texas: “It’s me, John. I paid off people to pretend that I am dead, but I am not dead,” Herrera explained in the Netflix doc saying only three people in the world know.

Well, not anymore. “Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee” is on the streaming platform on Wednesday.

Herrera further alleged that according to McAfee, only three people know he is still alive.

TROUBLE WITH LAW

Under the crypto charges, prosecutors accused the antivirus software company founder of engaging in a pump-and-dump scheme to defraud crypto investors. McAfee and his team were charged with leveraging the businessman’s Twitter account to promote the fraudulent scheme.

Consequently, the Department of Justice alleged that McAfee fraudulently earned over US$2 million in illicit profits.

It is worth mentioning that before the death, McAfee, in a series of tweets, claimed that if he were found dead, suicide would not be the cause.

BODY UNCLAIMED

McAfee’s death was surrounded by controversy, and by June 2022, his body was still lying in a Spanish morgue after his family launched a legal case for further checks. The case is yet to be dissolved.

Notably, Spanish authorities have noted that it is uncommon for identified bodies not to be reclaimed by their families for a long time.

Herrera reportedly started dating McAfee when she was 18 years old, but they fled from San Pedro in 2012 after the suspicious death of their next-door neighbor.

The Netflix documentary that comes out on Aug. 24 tracks McAfee’s life while on the run.
