From Silicon Valley to the Battlefield: How Big Tech Powers Modern War

America’s largest technology companies have changed how wars get fought. Public records show firms like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta now work directly with the US and Israeli militaries.

In 2025, the US Defense Department gave companies such as OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and xAI contracts of up to $200 million each. The government plans to spend $1 trillion upgrading its armed forces in 2026, focusing heavily on artificial intelligence.

Meta and Microsoft have confirmed they supply Israeli defense forces with advanced cloud services and AI tools. Project Nimbus, documents show, is a $1.2 billion deal where Google and Amazon provide the Israeli government and military with critical technology.

Meta has invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, a US military AI contractor. It’s not just contracts and technology; top executives from these companies have become Army Reserve officers to strengthen the bond between Silicon Valley and the Pentagon.

Military records list senior leaders from Meta, OpenAI, and Palantir as part of new tech-focused innovation units. These deals have provoked protests inside the firms.

Company and labor records show Google fired 28 employees after they opposed its military contracts with Israel. Microsoft also dismissed some workers who objected to defense work.

Official privacy watchdogs such as the US Federal Trade Commission confirm that these tech companies train AI with data collected from millions of ordinary people—whether they know it or not.

Growing Concerns Over Tech Giants as Key Defense Partners

International watchdogs, including UN officials, raise concerns that treating private tech firms as core defense partners can reduce transparency and accountability.

US government records show that tech companies now account for eight of the ten most valuable corporations worldwide, giving them unmatched leverage in both business and national security.

Simply put, the world’s biggest tech firms are no longer just about gadgets and apps. Their products, services, and even leaders now help drive the future of warfare and defense policy.

This shift means private companies have a new kind of power that affects not only markets and jobs, but also global security, government decisions, and the use of individual data.

These are not distant issues: the rapid merger of technology and military force means the tools we use every day are now building the infrastructure for tomorrow’s conflicts and shaping who holds power in the world.

Every new contract and innovation raises fresh questions about privacy, public oversight, and who benefits from these massive changes.
