Festa Jazz Ahead Tonight in Rio: Daily

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The sixth edition of the Festa Jazz Ahead takes place in Clube dos Macacos in Jardim Botânico, starting at 10PM today. This edition will pay homage to legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday and feature Honduran Indiana Nomma, along with jazz group Quinteto Nuclear and DJ Gustavo MM.

Jazz Ahead has become a must-see event for fans in the Cidade Maravilhosa, showcasing one of the favorites of the young jazz scene. Every event is dedicated to a special jazz artist and this Saturday, it will be the influential and timeless Billie Holiday’s turn.

The body of work of the late iconic American singer and songwriter, who is widely recognized as one of jazz‘s most important talents, will inspire tonight’s performances at the Clube dos Macacos.

The special guest of the day is Honduran-Brazilian singer Indiana Nomma, who impresses the audience with her striking voice and versatility. The singer, considered a Brazilian Jazz revelation, has been in the music industry for 23 years and has sung at various festivals and opened shows for music giants from Brazil and abroad, like Gloria Gaynor, Billy Paul and Ney Matogrosso.

Inspiring visitors to get on their feet will be Jazz Ahead regulars Quinteto Nuclear. The once Boston-based band tries to bring more young people to the jazz scene with their modern sound and experimental improvisations, while still referencing some of jazz music’s greatest artists.

Adding to the list of talents on display tonight is DJ Gustavo MM, an experienced master of the beats, who will play jazz produced specifically made for turntables, mixing it with elements from electronic music and nu jazz.

The venue is the open air rustic event space at the Clube dos Macacos, named after the Rio dos Macacos (Monkey River) located on Rua Pacheco Leão, high up in Jardim Botânico (Botanic Gardens). Taxi service is required if you do not have transportation, and the event has become very popular so tickets are likely to sell out early.
