RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The National Emergency Operations Committee (COE-N) recommended on Thursday, April 1, to the president of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, to declare a “state of exception” in a focused way to face the growing wave of coronavirus infections in the country.

“We recommend to the president to declare a state of exception for 30 days,” said Juan Zapata, director of the COE-N, after a meeting of that body to analyze the serious situation in the country.

For the moment, the measure, if accepted by the president, would be applied “in the provinces of Azuay, El Oro, Esmeraldas, Guayas, Manabí, Pichincha, Santo Domingo and Loja”, of the 24 provinces of the country.
