Ecuador deploys Infantry units to reinforce its border with Peru

The Ecuadorian Army has transferred new troops to its southern border, more precisely in the province of Loja, in order to reinforce security and public order in this border area with Peru.

For this purpose, infantry units from the BI-21 ‘Macará’ Battalion have been deployed whose mission is to check the milestones on the border, but above all to intensively patrol the illegal crossings, which are being used for the transport of illicit substances, weapons, ammunition and explosives.

BORDER SECURITY POLICY

The operational deployment of these personnel is intended to reinforce security on the southern border of the country, intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and arms trafficking in this area, thanks, among other reasons, to the cooperation agreements signed with other countries, including the United States, which has allowed greater control and surveillance of its jurisdictional waters.

The recovery of levels of public order -particularly in rural areas- is due to the use of Army units that carry out constant patrols, controls and actions in order to neutralize the factors that generate violence and with the aim of promoting security and tranquility, as well as socio-economic development, through the coordinated action of the various state agencies and with the permanent accompaniment of the public force.
