RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Dutch DJ/producer/electronic composer Eelke Kleijn returns to Brazil on Saturday, February 22nd to play at Copacabana’s new club, Cave. Best known for his electronic dance music [EDM], Kleijn joins this year’s Rio Music Conference (RMC) as part of the event’s club week.
With almost ten years in the industry, Kleijn has traveled around the world performing in festivals and clubs including Privilege Ibiza, Mystery Land, Sensation, Moonpark Buenos Aires and Brazil’s Warung Beach Club in Praia Brava, Itajaí, Santa Catarina.
“I’ve played in Brazil quite often but always in the south,” Kleijn told The Rio Times. “On the 22nd I play at club Cave which will be my first meeting with the Rio crowd. Apparently Rio is an ‘outside’ city with lots of stuff happening outdoors. Hopefully I’ll be able to pull all of them inside with my music.”
With two albums releases and multiple remixes, Kleijn also recently began making a name for himself as a producer of music for television, commercials and movies. Trailers for the films; “Rush”, “Wrath of the Titans” and “This Means War” feature his work.
Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1983, Kleijn began DJing as a teenager. Describing the impetus for his career, Kleijn told The Rio Times; “I guess like every other DJ. I loved music and when I started going to clubs I wanted to do that thing that the DJ was doing. So I got myself a pair of turntables, bought some music and started practicing. It wasn’t until a few years later that I landed my first real gig though, when I was 19 or 20.”
Kleijn went on to release tracks on numerous record labels and to successfully remix various other artists. He also built his label own record label, Outside the Box Music.
Additionally during the Rio Music Conference (RMC), Kleijn will participate in a workshop entitled, The Art of the Remix. Taking place on Wednesday afternoon at 2PM, Kleijn with Mixmag’s Nick DeCosemo, will discuss techniques for remixing and the methodologies his uses.
Of the conference Kleijn said; “This is my first year actually. From a quick look at the line up it looks pretty promising, and I really like the fact that it’s in five cities throughout Brazil! I’ve spent a lot of years at ADE [Amsterdam Dance Event] so I am looking forward to seeing how it compares to that.”
