Carrying firearms in the week of Lula da Silva’s inauguration – military personnel may also have their ownership suspended

The team that will provide security for Lula da Silva during his inauguration asked the STF to restrict the carrying of firearms from December 28th to January 2nd.

If the request is accepted, all those who carry firearms, even plainclothes military personnel, will have their ownership suspended, unless they are strictly authorized.

According to the future Justice Minister Flávio Dino, Andrei Passos Rodrigues, security coordinator for the president-elect and future director general of the Federal Police, has already made the request to the STF.

“We reflected on all the security of the presidential inauguration, both with the government of the Federal District and now here at the CCBB (Bank of Brazil Cultural Center) with the Federal Police team. Now, in the early afternoon, we are going to ask Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is the rapporteur for the investigation into anti-democratic acts, that he suspend the carrying of firearms in the Federal District between tomorrow and January 2nd or 3rd”.

“The objective is that even people who are eventually holders of authorizations, of carrying, for example, CACs (collector, sport shooter and hunter), have this suspension by court order so that it is configured that any possession of a weapon during this period will be considered a crime. The application will be filed this afternoon. And we hope that with the deferment we will have another layer of protection”
