The Mexican Air Force deploys a plane to Peru to repatriate citizens

The Mexican Air Force (FAM) sent one of its planes, which model it has not been reported, to repatriate Mexican citizens who wish to leave Peru after the events after the removal and arrest of former president Pedro Castillo, who tried to dissolve the Congress.

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, confirmed this week that a FAM aircraft would travel to Peru to rescue Mexicans stranded in that country in the midst of the political crisis.

“What I can tell you is that the procedures are already being carried out for an Air Force plane to transfer Mexicans stranded in Peru, there are already conditions, so that this transfer can be carried out,” said López Obrador.

PEOPLE STRANDED IN PERU

Since last December 7, Peru has faced a political crisis that has led to protests that have blocked communication routes and the suspension of transportation. Several foreigners have not been able to leave the country, some of them are of Mexican origin.

Some of the Mexicans stranded in Peru are tourists, who found themselves trapped while they were exploring the country, but when transportation was suspended, they were unable to return to Mexico. There are also businessmen, workers, missionaries and other compatriots who already resided in that nation.

This year, the FAM made at least two flights to Ukraine, to return Mexicans who had also been trapped in the middle of Russia’s invasion of that country. For this rescue, a Boeing 737-800 with registration number 3528 of the FAM was used, which has a capacity for 150 passengers.
