The 74 individual cable car seats have given way to options with enclosed cabins and even for pets.
With an investment of R$35 million (US$6.8 million), the cable car overlooking the Serra da Mantiqueira now offers a closed cabin for eight people and an open cabin for up to six passengers.
Pet cabins were also installed for medium-sized animals – the weight limit is up to 80 kg. Animals up to 15 kg can ride on their guardian’s lap.
The modernization of the attraction is part of the third stage of the project to revitalize the 40,000 square meters of Capivari Park, with a total budget of R$90.4 million.
The park is a concession from the São Paulo State government, through the State Secretariat of Metropolitan Transportation, under the management of the concessionaire Eco Jordão.
A classic attraction of this city known as “Brazilian Switzerland,” located 172 km from São Paulo, the cable car with individual wheelchairs was inaugurated in the 1970s.
In 2021, before it was closed, the ride took 180,000 visitors up to Morro do Elefante, 560 meters up.
The entrance to Capivari Park is free, but the attractions (cable car, Ferris wheel, and pedal boat) are paid.
