Brazilian government announces relaunch of agrarian reform program
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will relaunch this month the agrarian reform programs and the redistribution of currently unproductive land for peasant families, announced yesterday, Saturday, the Minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira.
“Agrarian reform will return to Brazil. We are going to distribute lands and recover unproductive lands, allocating them to agrarian reform,” said Teixeira during the fourth edition of the National Agrarian Reform Fair organized in the city of São Paulo by the Landless Workers Movement (MST), the organisation that invades private properties in Brazil.

The minister clarified that this policy will also have lines of financing and technical assistance for settlers, promoting agricultural cooperatives.
He also highlighted the work of the MST as a producer of “healthy food” for the domestic market.
Teixeira added that there are policies for small farmers, especially for the State to buy food for school canteens.
