Brazilian Clubs Eye Glory in 2024 South American Cup

The 2024 South American Cup, which commences this Tuesday, promises significant prizes and thrilling matches.

The champion could win more than R$40 million ($8 million) for participating in all rounds, with the final offering around R$25 million ($5 million).

Conmebol awarded over R$409 million ($82 million) last season, with LDU from Ecuador taking home R$40 million ($9 million).

Fortaleza, the runner-up, earned R$10 million ($2 million). The competition’s quality is rising.

“This edition includes many Copa Libertadores champions. Our goal is a strong performance,” Marcelo Paz, CEO of Leão do Pici’s SAF, stated.

Felipe Becker, Internacional’s Vice President of Football, emphasized the Cup’s importance, noting the participation of historical Libertadores winners.

“We’re aiming for an outstanding campaign,” he said.

This week, matches proceed without the Brazilian and Argentine teams, which will enter during the group phase.

As betting platforms suggest, favorites like Boca Juniors and Internacional are expected to excel.

The competition will feature sixteen matches. These teams will be joined by six Brazilian, six Argentine teams, and four teams from Libertadores’ last pre-stage.

“South American football’s growth involves better-trained teams and improved club management, elevating tournament standards,” Rogério Neves, CEO of Motbot, analyzed.

Fernando Paz from Absolut Sport highlighted the tournament’s enhanced prestige due to increased rewards and stronger sponsor involvement.

“These developments have boosted the Cup’s appeal, attracting significant teams and heightening the final stages’ competitiveness,” Paz concluded, pointing to a pivotal moment for Brazilian clubs in South American football.
