Brazilian agribusiness ensures employment for 20 million workers

According to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), Brazilian agribusiness employs almost 20 million workers today.

Traditional in the sector, the institution belongs to the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, of the University of São Paulo (USP).

The data show that about half of this contingent is allocated to the primary sector. That is: in the operations that take place on the farm, popularly known as “inside the gate”.

Agribusiness, on the other hand, employs a little over 4 million, and the service sector dedicated to Brazilian agribusiness occupies almost 6 million workers.

The survey conducted by Cepea used information from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The figures, however, do not include production carried out exclusively for one’s own consumption.

Brazilian agribusiness is one of the major engines of the country’s economy.

The National Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) estimates that the sector is responsible for 25% of Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product.

In foreign accounts, Brazilian agribusiness is responsible for almost half of the national invoicing with the foreign market.

Currently, the country is one of the major global suppliers of food, with emphasis on items such as soybeans, corn, sugar, and coffee, as well as chicken and beef.
