RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – What better place for sun lovers and vacationers than the paradisiacal beaches that Colombia has to offer. Although many of them have had to close due to the health situation, local authorities were able to establish biosecurity protocols in these areas for the safe enjoyment of tourists.

We bring you ten beaches of the Colombian Caribbean ideal to spend an unforgettable time of breeze, sun and of course, lots of sea:

Barú, Bolivar

Baru is made up of several beaches, and among the most outstanding are Cholon, Agua Azul, Playa Blanca and Agua Tranquila, all synonymous with tranquility and relaxation.

The island is part of the National Natural Park Los Corales del Rosario, which highlights the biodiversity found there, and can be reached by sea or land.

The place is suitable for water sports such as kite surfing, skiing or jet skiing. You can also practice snorkeling and diving, given the great variety of corals found in the area and the good visibility in the water that is maintained throughout the year.

You can also visit the National Aviary, where you can take tours through three ecosystems: coastal zone, desert and tropical rainforest, having the opportunity to observe about 170 species of birds and about 1,700 specimens.

Cristal Beach, Magdalena

This beach is located within the Tayrona National Natural Park, in the department of Magdalena, and approximately one hour from Santa Marta by land.

According to a TripAdvisor study, Playa Cristal is one of the favorite beaches in South America for its beauty and crystal clear waters.

In addition, as revealed by the latest list of most booked destinations during the month of October by Colombian families, conducted by Despegar, Santa Marta tops the list as the best destination to visit after mandatory isolation.

“All people, and especially children, love to travel. So after so many months without being able to leave home, the best prize is a trip,” added Catalina Prieto, country manager of Despegar Colombia.

Cañaveral Beach

Another beach located in the Tayrona National Natural Park, which is a paradise to enjoy the sun and sea in tranquility and away from the crowds. Colombia Travel describes it as a place where “the majesty of the Sierra Nevada converges with the beauty of the crystalline beaches, making visitors feel that they are far from everyday life, but with all the comforts”.

There, you can go on ecological hikes and other activities such as scuba diving. Within the Tayrona Park there are also spaces to stay in ecohabs, i.e., cabins built in harmony with nature. Visitors can also stay in camping areas that must be reserved in advance.

Cabo de la Vela, La Guajira

Cabo de la Vela, one of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia, is an experience that combines relaxation in the Caribbean Sea with the Wayúu culture.

To get there is to immerse yourself in the customs, rituals and colors of one of the most magical indigenous communities in the country.

In the place you can visit the Pilon, where you can see a 360-degree panoramic view of the sea and the desert, besides being a sacred place for the Wayúu Indians.

You can also enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean and take a dip in the sea, with all the biosafety protocols.

Also, an unmissable plan is to visit the Lighthouse, a viewpoint facing the sea where you can see incredible sunsets, where the ocean seems infinite from that angle.

To get to this beach, you must reach Riohacha, the capital of the department of La Guajira, which is three hours away from the place.

San Bernardo Archipelago, Cordoba, Sucre and Bolivar

The San Bernardo Archipelago is part of the Corales del Rosario National Natural Park and has beautiful beaches to enjoy in the Gulf of Morrosquillo.

With an area of approximately 255 km², a group of eight islands, a series of banks, an artificial islet and shallow coral shallows, it is one of the destinations that can not be missed in Colombia.

The islands, located in this paradisiacal place between the departments of Córdoba, Bolívar and Sucre, are Isla Fuerte, Boquerón, Palma, Panda, Mangle, Ceycén, Cabruna, Tintipán, Maravilla and Múcura, and an artificial islet, Santa Cruz del Islote, one of the most populated islands in the world.

The tranquility of the area and the coral formations constitute a space to rest to the fullest and to carry out relaxing activities such as diving, windsurfing or water skiing.

To get there, you can take a boat from Cartagena to San Bernardo in an hour and 50 minutes, or for a shorter trip, you can leave from Tolú, which is approximately one hour away from the archipelago.

Palomino, La Guajira

Palomino in La Guajira, is one of the beaches of the Colombian Caribbean known for the tranquility of its several kilometers, where you can have direct contact with nature.

In the region, you can find a great variety of hotels and restaurants, which provide comfort, even being in nature. You can also enjoy activities such as surfing, or the popular tour in tires on the Palomino River.

Providencia, San Andres

The island of Providencia, located in the archipelago of San Andres, is undoubtedly one of the places you cannot miss in Colombia. There you can get to know its famous sea of seven colors, so called because of the range of blues that converge in its waters thanks to its Barrier Reef that protects its coasts and which is the second largest in the Caribbean with 32 km long, after Belize.

At the same time, this coral barrier includes the Old Providence National Natural Park and Mac Bean Lagoon, which obtained the title of Sea Flower Biosphere Reserve in the year 2000.

But in addition to this, this Colombian island is home to underwater landscapes full of life, as well as other ecosystems such as mangroves that display an unparalleled natural beauty.
