New landslide in Brazil: area declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO affected

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - According to the authorities, there were no injuries or casualties. The natural disaster caused a power outage in the affected area.

A 19th century manor house was destroyed by the landslide on Thursday, January 13, in Ouro Preto. The buried property, which belongs to the city government, was located near the Morro da Forca, in the city's historic center.

The Municipal Civil Defense said the site was empty, interdicted since 2012 when another landslide occurred. The area near the hill and the affected mansion was evacuated and isolated in the morning by the Fire Department . . .
