Brazil: Port of Vitória breaks record and achieves best month in 56 years

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The most significant shipments involved solid and liquid bulk operations, as well as general and containerized cargo.

According to Espírito Santo Ports Company’s (CODESA) Planning and Development coordinator Leonardo Bianchi, there is an explanation for the string of records registered by the Port of Vitória.

“Our commercial policy is in full operation, there is a rapprochement with our players. In addition, our low berthing waiting list has attracted the interest of customers, who ultimately prefer the Port of Vitória for its agility in operations,” Bianchi explained.

From January through September this year, 2,564,841 tons of solid bulk cargos were handled, representing an increase of 30.49% over the same period in 2020. In the same month, among the cargos that recorded the highest volume of movement were fertilizers, totaling 183,733 tons.

The net volume was also up in the year. In the period analyzed, cargo recorded movement of 707,293 tons, while 619,042 tons were handled in the same period in 2020, a variation of 14.26%. Among the main products handled were caustic soda and petroleum derivatives.

In addition, the handling of vehicles increased, with 32,065 units moving through the Vitória maritime port in the first 9 months of the year. In the same period of 2020, 17,866 cars were handled. The difference represents 79.5% growth.

TYPES OF NAVIGATION

In the month, 47.5% of ships docked at the Port of Vitória were on cabotage (coastal trade) routes, while 52.5% were long-haul. Operation routing registered a slight advantage for offloading, with 54.61%, while loading registered 45.39%.

In addition, the port handled ships coming from France, Italy, Uruguay and Russia, while shipping cargo to the United States, Spain and China.
