Brazil: with Lula’s tax, the average price of gasoline rises another 3%

After six days of the return of federal PIS/Cofins taxes on fuels, the average price of gasoline has increased at service stations across the country.

According to the survey by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), the liter of gasoline rose 3.3%, from R$5.08 to R$5.25 – values observed between February 26 and March 4.

In the ANP survey, the highest value recorded was R$6.99, and the lowest was R$5.25 – in São Paulo (SP) and Vitória (ES), respectively.

Ethanol was also impacted and went up from R$3.79 to R$3.88, reaching R$6.96 in some places.

DIESEL FUEL

Diesel had a positive result for the consumer, with a 0.5% drop at gas stations all over the country, since it was not affected by the direct impact of the taxes implemented by the government.

The liter of diesel cost, on average, R$6.02 – previously, the average value was R$6.05.

LPG GAS

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or cooking gas, was slightly reduced by 0.08% in the period.

The most common 13-kilogram cylinder was traded at R$107.50, compared to the R$107.59 charged before.

The drop follows the input trend, which had been presenting reductions.

Both LPG and diesel are tax-exempt until January 1, 2024.
