Brazil closes July with lowest weekly average of Covid cases of the year (July 31)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil recorded 37,582 new cases and 910 deaths attributed to coronavirus on the last day of July. This is the lowest weekly daily average of infections this year, and the number of deaths is below 1,000, according to official government figures released Saturday.

Since the first infection on Feb. 26, 2020, and the first death on March 12 of the same year, both in São Paulo, the country now has 19,917,855 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and a total of 556,370 deaths.

The Ministry of Health pointed out in its latest epidemiological bulletin that there was a decrease in the number of people infected (-8.12%) and daily deaths (-5.50%) compared to the previous 24 hours.

According to the report, 18,619,542 patients have recovered from the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in a country of more than 210 million people, accounting for 93.5% of the total number infected.

Another 741,943 patients are receiving medical care in hospitals or at home after testing positive in clinical tests.

According to the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), the average number of disease cases fell to 35,332 per day last week, the lowest level of the year, confirming the slowdown of the health emergency.

Last week’s average number of daily deaths fell to 989 this Saturday, below 1,000 deaths for the first time since January 20, when it was 981 in the week ending that day.

According to Statista, the leading German company specializing in market and consumer data, Brazil ranks fifth in Latin America for deaths per million in the last seven days. It is better positioned than Colombia, Paraguay, Cuba, and Argentina.

The state of São Paulo, the most populous in the country with 46 million inhabitants and located in the southeast, continues to record the most confirmed cases (4,057,868) and deaths (138,996).

The country has administered 141.7 million vaccines, 100.5 million were first doses, and 41.2 million were second or single doses.

The country has managed to immunize 19.6 percent of its population with two doses or a single administration in terms of the total population.
