The President of the Brazilian Central Bank declares that he will remain in office until the end of his term as long as the Central Bank has autonomy

Asked this Tuesday, the 13th, whether the change of government could alter digital projects run by the Central Bank of Brazil (BC), the president of the monetary authority, Roberto Campos Neto, repeated that the institution has autonomy and confirmed that it should continue to lead the BC until the end of his mandate in 2024.

According to him, the innovation agenda should not change with the inauguration of the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), but he mentioned briefly, without giving details, that he thinks that “other parties” may have “more adaptations.”

“The Central Bank has autonomy. I stay in office for two more years. Most of the BC’s projects are not from a president or a team, they belong to the institution. I took a very good legacy from my predecessor, who built several paths, several bridges”, he said, in an event organized by Poder360 and PicPay.

According to him, the BC’s innovation agenda was adopted by the autarchy’s employees and will continue regardless of who is in government, also considering that digitization is exponential and that “we cannot lose this path.”

“I think that, in the other part, there may be more adaptations. In that part, in the visualization of what the financial future is, I see that it is a little independent. My answer is that it will not change with the new government. We need improvements,” said Campos Neto, without detailing what the adaptations would be and in which parts related to BC.
