Venezuela to boost new property system

On Wednesday, August 17, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced the creation of the National Land Commission, which aims to reinforce the policies of democratization of property over the territories and thus strengthen productivity in the South American country.

“In Venezuela, there has been an agrarian revolution in peace; in the past, the greatest conflicts in Venezuela and humanity were based on land ownership; there was a brutal exploitation system,” said the president during a speech broadcast by the state television.

Maduro assured that “there are still some half feudal systems, of some landowners, but justice will arrive, the constitution will arrive, and the light of truth will also arrive there, that is why I have decided to approve the creation of the National Land Commission to give a necessary boost to the democratization and distribution of land with agricultural vocation”.

The Head of State clarified that this is a measure to “give the land to those who work it, but it is not only about giving the land but also that there is support to productive projects, with financing, provision of seeds, machinery and experts”.

He explained that the referred national instance would have 24 state spokespersons, 335 municipal spokespersons (one for each country locality), and 1,123 parish spokespersons.

According to official figures, 12.6 million hectares have been handed over in Venezuela in the last 20 years, and the ownership of 3.6 million hectares has been regularized.

In addition, the president highlighted that “Venezuela is advancing in a great country project” and celebrated that different banks in the world estimate Venezuela’s economic growth to be between 5% and 20% by 2022.

“It is not like before, when only oil production grew, and we also spent more than what was coming in, we imported everything and produced nothing, now it is a growth based on the real and productive economy, which is diversifying,” he concluded.
