The weekly events were originally one of the first musical programs held at Casa da Matriz and they are back to help bring some rock’n’roll to a usually somewhat inactive weeknight. The event’s popularity is growing as each Tuesday they host new up-and-coming rock bands. Tonight, bands Müniz and Lisbela will perform.

Casa da Matriz, one of the oldest and most well known music venues in Rio, is again presenting live rock’n’roll on Tuesday nights and tonight will showcase bands Müniz and Lisbela.

Tuesday nights are all about jazz at Lapa’s Leviano bar and tonight the event will host special guest English singer Folakemi and her quintet.

At 7:30PM Camila Masiso will start things off again at Centro’s Rio Scenarium. Then Nilze Carvalho will follow at 10:30PM.

Ginga Tropical (Catete)
Exeperience Brazil’s rich musical history at Casarão Ameno Resedá in Catete tonight as the venue holds the Ginga Tropical theater event featuring the best of Brazilian rhythms and dancing. A tribute to Brazilian legend Carmen Miranda kicks things off followed by cabaret and an homage to famous Brazilian televison presenter Osvaldo Sargentelli. The show will continue with samba, dancing Orixás, lambada, forró, maracatu, pagode, bossa nova, funk and frevo, almost everything one needs to get a true feel for the rhythms and musical culture of Brazil in one night.

Language exchange – Lapa Irish Pub (Lapa)
It’s Portuguese/English language exchange night at the Lapa Irish Pub. Set up like speed dating, native English speakers will be paired up with native Portuguese speaker at tables. The pairs will then speak English for 5 minutes followed by Portuguese for 5 minutes. After those ten minutes, each speaker will move on to a new table and conversation partner. It’s both fun and educational and the R$10 entrance cost includes free food.

With live music and classic pub games like darts and pool, Ipanema’s Shenanigan’s is always a great spot to visit. Happy Hour is dose dupla (two for one) on Mondays through Fridays 6PM-8PM. Additionally, tacos are half-price on Tuesdays.
