The weekly events were originally one of the first musical programs held at Casa da Matriz, one of the oldest music venues in Rio, and now they are back to help bring some rock’n’roll to a usually somewhat inactive weeknight. The event’s popularity is growing as each Tuesday they host new up-and-coming rock acts and bands.
Tonight, the bands Umporémdois and Azen will perform live for this week’s Matriz Live Sessions. Umporémdois claims wide-ranging influences from Pink Floyd and the Beatles to Gilberto Gil and Tom Jobim, while the band Azen say they were inspired mostly by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The weekly ‘Matriz Live Sessions,’ were originally one of the first musical programs held at Casa da Matriz, one of the oldest music venues in Rio. Blues Night at Barzin (Ipanema)
Tuesday nights are all about blues at Ipanema’s Barzin. The venue with its sophisticated atmosphere, great service and variety of drinks is the perfect place to relax and soak up the smooth and soulful sounds of the blues.

Márcia Feitosa will start the night off at Lapa’s Carioca da Gema at 8PM and Grupo Semente will bring their lively show to tonight beginning at 9:30PM.

Jazz Leviano with Bagunço (Lapa)
Tuesday nights are all about jazz at Lapa’s Leviano bar and tonight the event will host special guest, Silvan Galvão. Additonally Leviano is now hosting Happy Hour from 5PM to 9PM on Monday through Thursday nights. Promotions include a bucket of three 600ml beers (Bohemia or orignal) for R$22 and dose dupla (two for one) caipirinhas for R$11.90.

Marcelinho Moreira and Marcos Ariel and Tigres da Lapa (Centro)
At 7:30PM, Marcos Ariel and Tigres da Lapa will get things started at Rio Scenarium by performing the original compositons of flutist Marcos Ariel. Additionally, they will play choro classics by Ernesto Nazareth and bossa nova classics by Tom Jobim. Then at 10:30PM percussionist Marcelinho Moreira will deliver his abstract blend of samba and pagode.

PUBS & BARS:
Language exchange – Lapa Irish Pub (Lapa)
But Quiz night Rio tonight at Lapa Irish Pub, it’s time again for the Portuguese/English language exchange. Set up like speed dating, native English speakers will be paired up with native Portuguese speaker at tables. The pairs will then speak English for 5 minutes followed by Portuguese for 5 minutes. After those ten minutes, each speaker will move on to a new table and conversation partner. It’s both fun and educational and the R$10 entrance cost includes free food. Following the language exchange tonight, the bands Clashing Clouds, Sound Bullet and Montanha Russa will perform live.
