Opinion: the US moves toward Latinization with the imminent arrest of Trump

(Opinion) When the magazine The Economist notes that prosecuting Trump for the case of porn actress Stormy Daniels “seems a mistake,” arguing that the “charge of paying a bribe is too uncertain and technical for the clarity the US needs,” we know that the Democrats are overdoing it and putting the nation in danger.

The leftist British magazine says:

“But treating a former president like any other citizen is a double-edged sword.”

“Prosecutors like the Manhattan district attorney have discretion in deciding which cases they investigate.”

“They must consider the seriousness of the case, the likelihood of securing a conviction, and the public interest in the case.”

“The last element is the most contentious.”

“Approximately half of the American public has a vested interest in holding Trump accountable.”

“The other half believes he is a victim of prosecutors and hardly perceives the court’s decision to go forward with the trial as impartial.”

Impartial, this accusation certainly is not, coming from a district attorney in ultra-leftist New York who had his campaign bankrolled by globalist George Soros.

It’s amazing how quickly the gang forgets about Republican values when using Justice to persecute an opponent.

When Trump said that Hilary Clinton had to be arrested for the email server scandal, the media went wild.

Now the same media applauds the abuse of power to try to eliminate his challenger from the election race.

The heart of the matter here is the mentality that noble ends justify any means.

That was America’s curse in this day and age, a Soviet legacy, a dangerous mentality.

One starts from the premise (false or questionable, to say the least) that Trump represents a threat to democracy and then justifies everything to “save” democracy, including using the state apparatus to persecute the former president abusively.

It has been this way since 2016.

Those who accuse Trump most of endangering American democracy are the ones who don’t mind fraying the Republican institutional fabric to destroy a politician.

This is Latin American country stuff, let’s face it.

In these republics, the rule of law is replaced by the arbitrary, that public affairs become a “cosa nostra” and the state ends up being seen as a handmaiden of the ruling clan.

It is a very sad day for America, and many realize the damage and deeply regret what has happened.

It doesn’t matter – or shouldn’t matter – what one thinks of Trump himself. No one is above the law, but neither should anyone be arbitrarily targeted by “the law.”
