Over 10,000 police will guard a new day of protests against Macron’s pension reform

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced Sunday that 11,000 police and gendarmes would be deployed next Tuesday in response to a new day of protests against pension reform.

Darmanin has posted a message on Twitter announcing the number of mobilized agents and warns of the arrival of “members of the ultra-left from abroad.”

He has therefore issued 17 administrative bans to enable them to be denied entry into the country and “if necessary, facilitate their arrest.”

Of the 11,000 troops, 4,000 will be in the capital, Paris, “to ensure the security of the demonstrations and guarantee the right to demonstrate.”

Between 400,000 and 600,000 demonstrators are expected, according to an internal note from the intelligence services picked up by BFMTV television.

Of these, between 40,000 and 70,000 will be in the capital, of which about 1,000 would be “radical elements”: 200-300 of the “ultra-left” and ultras of the “yellow vests”.

The unions have called for the 14th “day of action” to demand repealing the pension reform and raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.

Also, this Thursday, the National Assembly will consider a proposal to repeal the reform presented by the Liberties, Independents, Overseas, and Territories Group (LIOT).

This Sunday, the Official Journal published several decrees implementing the measures included in the pension reform, such as the increase in the retirement age or the new rules for calculating the pension.
