Opinion: Lula da Silva supporters pour oil on fire and demand punishment and jail for protesting Brazilians

(Opinion) Some politicians allied with the PT party (left) began using social networks to call for criminal accountability of the organizers of acts that blocked highways in at least 16 states the first couple of days after the second round of the elections.

Pro-Bolsonaro voters’ demonstrations began when the Superior Electoral Court TSE declared Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT, left) the presidential election winner on Sunday (Oct 30).

The problem is that millions of Brazilians do not believe or trust the TSE and say the electoral high Court is part of the electoral fraud scheme in this presidential election. That is why they believe whatever the TSE says is a lie.

It’s the TSE’s own fault if many Brazilians think badly of them. And it is hardly a sign of their first-class work that their reputation is ruined.

Until this accusation of electoral fraud is thoroughly investigated by a neutral body such as the army, the TSE can claim as much as it wants.

It has lost all credibility for millions upon millions of Brazilians.

They should face this fact sooner rather than later if they do not want to risk a full-blown civil uprising with all the terrible consequences that such a one could entail.

The TSE may consider itself important and untouchable, but the fact is that it no longer enjoys the trust of a large part of the population.

A rapidly growing number of Brazilians believe in electoral fraud, causing them to launch a significant protest movement that could turn into something worse. Into something much worse.

Pretending that everything is fine, denigrating the Bolsonarists, calling them Nazis, suspending their social media accounts, ridiculing them, and igniting a warfare campaign against them will not work this time.

The rage is too great.

And more importantly, the Bolsonarists are a considerable movement and unmatched in numbers.

The sooner the highest courts (STF and TSE) admit that (too) many Brazilians doubt their authority, rightly or wrongly, the better this incipient uprising will go.

Those who think they have to put these people in jail have not understood how democracy works and provoke only one thing: more outrage and the beginning of violence.

On Twitter, reelected congressman Glauber Braga (Psol, left) posted a video in which he says it is necessary to frame President Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right) and what he called “fascist groupings that are obstructing the highways.”

Name-calling is always a sign of great maturity.

(All Nazis, fascists, extremists, and other scum? How far can denial go before it becomes ridiculous?)

“They must be duly impeached, Mr. Bolsonaro and the representative of the PRF (Federal Highway Police) and these fascist groups that block the highways because they do not want to accept the result of the elections,” he said.

Let this astonishing sentence sink in for a moment.

These people must be punished because they have lost faith in the institutions and therefore rise up?

The sentence of this politician could have come directly from the mouth of a Venezuelan or Nicaraguan official.

Braga provided the PSOL mandate in Parliament for “any task” and reiterated the institutional responsibility and accountability of the officials involved in the street blockades.

“Our mandate is available for any task. At the moment, we are institutionally demanding accountability from those who did not accept the election results. Nevertheless, we are ready and available for any task that may be necessary,” he said.

The leader of the Psol in the House and reelected congresswoman, Sâmia Bomfim, also used the social network to demand accountability from the organizers of the acts.

The congresswoman shared a video and wrote:

“Disgusting! Those responsible for these coup movements that even make nazist salutes must be identified and held criminally responsible right now! Enough!”

The elected deputy, Guilherme Boulos (Psol-SP), showed indignation with the Military Police of São Paulo, who was recorded saluting protesters who blocked highways.

In his Twitter profile, he wrote that the officers “should be removed immediately and answer for prevarication.

Congressman Marcelo Freixo (PSB-RJ) said that the blockade for not accepting the election result is a “crime” and that those who participate in these acts “must be treated with the rigor of the law.
