Moscow: Brazilian ambassador estimates trade with Russia at US$8.8 billion
Trade between Brazil and Russia has already reached US$8.8 billion, according to the Brazilian ambassador in Moscow, Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares.
“By November 2022, our trade has risen to US$8.8 billion, a record number,” the diplomat said during a webinar.
Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares was convinced that Brazil and Russia could “little by little achieve the goal of US$10 billion.”

The ambassador pointed out that 23% of the fertilizers imported by Brazil come from Russia, and that Brazilian producers aspire to take the place of companies that have abandoned the Russian market.
The sanctions that the West activated against Russia after the start of its special military operation in Ukraine, according to the diplomat, have created difficulties when it comes to reciprocal payments, logistics, insurance and freight, but Brasilia and Moscow are gradually trying to overcome them.
Likewise, Brazil is interested in intensifying its cooperation with Russia in many fields, including technology and chemistry, according to Lima Baena Soares.
“There is a long list of areas where we can expand our cooperation and which we see as extremely promising. For example, the field of technology and electronics, the chemical field, the pharmaceutical field and many others,” he noted.
The diversification and deepening of bilateral ties in these spheres, he added, will contribute to greater cooperation both at the level of businessmen and producers. According to the ambassador, his country also needs Russian fertilizers and receives them regularly.
