Mexican authorities presented Mexico’s official bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games on Wednesday.
“Since last July 7, Mexico has been considered by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete in and host the Olympic Games. The road is not easy, it is a great competition, but Mexico has always demonstrated its capacity,” said Mary José Alcalá, president of the Mexican Olympic Committee.
He added that Mexico’s precedent to achieve the venue is the 1968 Olympic Games, while Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard affirmed that the country also organized the 1970 and 1986 World Cups and will also be one of the hosts of the 2026 edition.

To meet IOC requirements and win the venue, Mexico will have to organize a promotion committee, prove that the local Olympic Committee can finance 30% of the event and the government another 10%, and demonstrate that it will provide the infrastructure.
Days ago, the IOC Director General, Christophe de Kepper, said they are working with ten national Olympic committees that could be interested, among them Egypt, England, India, and Qatar.
The election of the venue will take place in 2029.
The following editions of the Games will be held in Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028, and Brisbane 2032.
