Covid-19: Mask sales in Brazil should drop 29% from December, large pharmacy chain chain
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The RaiaDrogasil pharmacy chain projects a 29.5% reduction in sales of masks against Covid-19 from December. The rate follows the downward trend recorded since September when there were advances in the vaccination campaign.
A previous survey by RaiaDrogasil released the November 4 pointed out that the sale of unitary masks had dropped 40% in the previous three months. The prices in stores throughout Brazil also had a 15% reduction, on average.
“With the demand reduction, the chain chose to reduce the options of masks available and work with models in stock,” RaiaDrogasil said in a statement.

The Covid-19 pandemic started in March 2020 and recorded the first peak in May of that same year. Between January and October 2020, 2.5 million units of masks were purchased in RaiaDrogasil stores. In the same period in 2021, the chain’s pharmacies sold 7.6 million units of masks.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended on October 28 that the use of masks be maintained to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.
