Carioca Cricket Club Set to Host Nationals in Rio: Sponsored

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Carioca Cricket Club (CCC) is excited to be hosting the “Granado National Cricket Championship,” in Rio de Janeiro on the weekend of Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November 1st to be held at the São Fernando Polo & Cricket Club near Itaguaí.

The club has been working since its return from the first leg of the Nationals in Brasília to expand the tournament and make it the largest cricket event in Brazil.

“This is [one of] the biggest cricket tournaments ever in Brazil,” said Tobias Hanbury, CCC Chairman. “We will have six teams playing [including] São Paulo, Federal District, Amazonas, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais, and it will be the first time we host a party at the cricket ground.”

While Hanbury admitted that the CCC’s chances of winning the championship are long following the team’s performance at the first leg of the tournament in late July, the squad has still been training hard for the upcoming matches. Hanbury also added that the club expects to receive a great deal of press coverage from both international and local media, including ESPN and O Globo, both of which have confirmed that that they will be sending a team to cover the event.

In addition to the sports activities, there will be Granado Spa set up for those interested in a manicure or a pedicure, or a head or foot massage, all using Granado products. “The CCC is very proud to have the support of Granado as our Crown Sponsor – a long-established Rio company that produces and markets high-quality soaps, perfumes and personal hygiene products under the brand names Granado and Phebo,” Hanbury explains.

Earlier Hanbury also revealed, “Current plans for Saturday, October 31st include the famous gaúcho churrasco, with beef ribs barbecued over an open fire, plenty of beer and soft drinks, a live band and DJ, also a bonfire to roast your chestnuts and celebrate Halloween.” Adding, “There will also be lots of other activities for spectators, including tennis, swimming and mini-golf.”

All are welcome at the upcoming tournament next month, and Hanbury explains, “São Fernando P&CC is located about seventy minutes drive by bus from Ipanema, and the CCC arranges transport free-of-charge for everyone who wants to go and spend a glorious day away from Rio de Janeiro. The buses leave Praça General Osorio at 7AM and 10AM, and return to Rio de Janeiro at 7:30 PM and 10:30 PM.”
