The main highlights were health and personal care, which rose 1.49% and raised the IPCA by 0.19 p.p., and food and beverages, which rose 0.71% and had an impact of 0.15 p.p. on the index.

The health and personal care group hike was driven by pharmaceutical products, which registered an increase (3.55%) after the 5.60% readjustment in medication prices as of March 31.

On the other hand, personal hygiene products slowed down from 0.76% in March to 0.56% in April’s IPCA, influenced mainly by a drop in perfumes (-1.09%).

Last month, the prices of tomatoes (10.64%), long-life milk (4.96%), and cheese (1.97%) rose.

The IBGE also registered an increase in the IPCA in all its research areas. The highest variation was in Campo Grande (0.89%) due to residential electricity (6.11%).

The lowest variation was recorded in Recife (0.16%), influenced by the 3.41% drop in gasoline and the 2.51% drop in car repairs.

The inflation target for 2023 is 3.25%, with a tolerance interval of 1.75% to 4.75%.

The National Consumer Price Index rose 0.53% in April.

In the last 12 months, it grew 3.83%, below the 4.36% observed in the immediately previous 12 months. In the year to date, the index has accumulated a high of 2.42%.
