Brazil’s federal government yesterday(25) released a provisional measure (MP) releasing R$2.5 billion (US$500 million) as an extraordinary credit to be transferred to bus companies.

According to the text, the funds will finance free public transportation in states and municipalities for people over 65 years old.

According to the text, the fund will also cover expenses for emergency assistance to truck drivers and cab drivers. This measure was already included in Constitutional Amendment No. 123, approved by Congress on July 14 of this year.

According to the government, the measure meets the need to support the most financially vulnerable population and reduce the social impact of the sudden increase in fuel prices.

In a statement, the federal government clarifies that the MP “has no impact on the expenditure ceiling or the achievement of the primary outcome target, as provided for in the Constitutional Amendment itself No. 123.”
