Bolsonaro will spend inauguration with Trump in Florida and should not hand the sash to Lula da Silva, says columnist

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is not expected to hand the presidential sash to Lula on January 1. The information is from the column Thaís Oyama from the portal UOL.

This is because the Brazilian president has rented a house in the Mar-a-Lago condominium in Palm Beach, Florida.

Former President Donald Trump owns the property, which houses a luxury resort owned by Trump’s companies.

According to Oyama, Bolsonaro told friends he would spend a season at the Mar-a-Lago condominium in Palm Beach, Florida.

He and Bolsonaro had dinner there in March 2020, during an official visit by the Brazilian president to the then-American president, at the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic.

Bolsonaro’s trip is scheduled for Dec. 28. He told friends that he intends to “rest for one or two months” in Florida, according to Oyama.

The commentator Paulo Figueiredo said he sees with sadness this information if it is true: “He will spend New Year’s Eve in a condominium in Mar-a-Lago? This would be abandoning his people, who spent more than 50 days fighting for freedom”.

Some, however, see the trip through very different eyes, saying that Bolsonaro’s life is in acute danger in Brazil and that there is no better-secured place than Trump’s mansion.

Also, thanks to its governor Ron DeSantis, Florida is practically one of the most conservative-friendly places in the world.
