Solar and wind energies reach 32% of energy injected to the matrix in 2022 in Chile

Chile achieved in 2022 that solar and wind energies reached 32 percent of the energy injected into the energy matrix, thus surpassing the generation with thermal sources, highlighted the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow.

The official celebrated this day with the participatory public account 2023 of his portfolio, in which he emphasized advances in decarbonization and human capital.

Pardow highlighted that after 15 years of deep penetration of renewable energies, they identified that it is necessary to move towards greater flexibility in the system, which they called the “Second time of the energy transition”.

“The enactment of the Storage and Electromobility Law was the beginning of this second time. But that is not enough, and we must go further. A little over a month ago, we launched the Initial Agenda for a Second Time of the Energy Transition that considers 10 actions that will allow us to advance in an accelerated decarbonization of the electricity sector”, he detailed.

He also stressed the effort being made to position Chile as a leader in developing the green hydrogen industry.

“It seeks to include a more comprehensive look, built in a participatory manner and thus promoting the development of a sustainable industry that enables more complex and diverse local economies,” he said about the “Action Plan 2023-2030” for green hydrogen led by the Government of the southern country.

Pardow also stressed that through bilateral cooperation with European and Asian countries, they have sought to promote the development of public policies, regulations and the linkage with public and private actors to develop and pilot critical technologies for the green hydrogen economy.

“Yes, to learn international best practices to boost the domestic market,” he said.
