Chile’s Strategic Defense Enterprise unveils its new Volcano-F pistol

Fábricas y Maestranzas del Ejército (Famae) showcased its capabilities and products at the Chilean Army’s Military Polytechnic Academy (Acapomil), notably featuring the Volcano-F line of 9 x 19 mm caliber pistols.

Chile’s Strategic Defense Enterprise has developed this new generation of pistols to reintroduce handheld weapons and expand its product catalog.

The new pistol is possibly inspired by the SIG P226 family of pistols.

FAMAE state that the pistol will be chambered in 9x19mm and has a 13-round magazine capacity, steel slide, and an aluminum frame.

The Vulcano has a double action/single action trigger which, combined with its apparent size would indicate it is patterned after the P228/9.

The Chilean military is currently equipped with the FAMAE FN-750, which, contrary to its designation, is a locally produced CZ 75 clone.

Elements of Chile’s special forces are also said to use the Beretta Px4.

The gun was first presented as a prototype in 2020 and officially launched in 2022.

It is now sold in various gun shops in Santiago.

Volcano-F is made from high-alloy raw materials imported from Italy, capable of withstanding significant stressors.

It passed tests for resistance to water, snow, mud, sand, and temperature changes.

The Volcano-F has a 112.5 mm barrel with six polygonal rifling, grip grooves on both sides and a 16-round magazine.

It has an overall length of 211 mm, a width of 34 mm, a weight of 1,175 grams when the magazine is empty, and a sight radius of 133 mm.

At Exponaval 2022, Famae introduced the new Sparta-F pistol model with a launched needle system and the Tornado-F model with a polymer case in 9 x 19 mm and .40 S&W calibers.
