Portuguese is the fourth most spoken language in the world

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - According to the Camões Institute, today (5), World Portuguese Language Day, 260 million people (3.7% of the world's population) speak the language, which is the most widely used after Mandarin, English and Spanish.

Portuguese is the official language of nine member countries of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and Macau.

This year, the official commemorations will take place in Brazil, where the President of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, will be present.
