Bolsonaro: Brazil Was Among Countries That Better Faced Pandemic

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – At a time when the country records over 115,000 deaths from Covid-19, President Jair Bolsonaro again said on Wednesday, August 26th, that Brazil was among the countries that better faced the novel coronavirus pandemic in the world.

Bolsonaro also congratulated Governor Romeu Zema for his performance in Minas Gerais during the pandemic, even though the state exceeds 200,000 cases of the disease and almost five thousand deaths.

According to monitoring by John Hopkins University, Brazil is the country with the second-highest number of Covid-19 cases (3.6 million), behind only the United States (5.7 million). The same is true when death records in several nations are analyzed: the United States has 178,700 recorded deaths, while Brazil ranks second with 116,500.

“We know that the virus kills. We lament the deaths, not only those but all deaths. Everyone here has lost a relative or friend. And we lament this, but we must face it, we can’t just stay home all our lives,” said Bolsonaro during an event in Minas Gerais on Wednesday morning.
