Brazil: Lula da Silva dismisses the heads of the Federal Police of 18 states

The Brazilian Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, has made official this Thursday the replacement of 26 of the 27 regional leaderships of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the dismissal of 18 heads of the Federal Police (PF), a decision that would not come motivated by the attacks of January 8, but was already addressed in the transition stage of the new Government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The only regional superintendent of the PRF that maintains the position is that of Piauí, while in regards to the PF they are those of Rio Grande do Norte, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondonia, Santa Catarina, Goiás, Rio de Janeiro, Sergipe , Pernambuco, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Paraíba, Alagoas, São Paulo, Paraná, Pará, Amazonas and Minas Gerais, who leave.

The new superintendent of the PF in Rio de Janeiro is Leandro Almada, known for leading an investigation that revealed obstacles to clarifying the murder of councilor Marielle Franco and the person who was traveling with him, Anderson Gomes, several Brazilian media highlight.

Along with these changes in the Police, the Lula da Silva government has also been making modifications to the security cabinets in charge of guarding the facilities of the Planalto Palace, the seat of the Presidency, and that of Alvorada, the official residence, on this occasion due to the distrust in the high military commands after the coup attacks on January 8.
