Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party had the most state deputies elected

The Liberal Party (PL) is the party that grew the most in number of state and district deputies in comparison to 2018.

From 43 candidates elected to office in the Legislature that year, the acronym reached 129 state deputy seats on Sunday, October 2. The figures also include elected district deputies.

The result represents a 200% growth in this period. In the last elections, the party of President Jair Bolsonaro had already elected 43 state deputies.

The DC (Christian Democracy) was the party that proportionally lost the most representatives to the position. It had ten representatives in the last elections and has now elected only 1.

After this, Lula da Silva’s Workers’ Party (PT), União Brasil, MDB, and PP (Progressives) are the parties that added the most seats for this position in the current elections, respectively. The majority PL had an increase of 86 state deputies compared to the last election.

In the history of the last five elections, the party that has grown the most proportionally is the Republicans. From 2006 to 2022, the acronym went from 3 to 76 seats in the Legislative Assemblies.

In February this year, the DEM and the PSL merged to form União Brasil. The first party was on a downward trajectory in the number of state deputies elected – from 101 in 2006 (when it was still called PFL) to 53 in 2018.

The PSL, on the other hand, the former party of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) when he was elected to the Plateau, grew more than ten times in the same comparison and went from 7 to 75 seats in the legislative assemblies.

Other mergers took place in this period. The PAN, which had six state deputies in 2006, was included in the PTB, which reduced its representation in office from that year to 2022 by 82%.

The PPL was incorporated into the PCdoB in 2019 and has now elected 18 state deputies, down from 21 in 2018.

Podemos incorporated the PHS in 2019, which tried to disaffiliate itself from the merged party, but the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) denied its request.

Podemos increased more than three times the number of state deputies from 2006 to 2018 and has now elected 28 – seven more than in the last elections.
