Bogotá Leads Colombia’s Competitive Cities in 2024 Ranking

Bogotá has maintained its position as Colombia’s most competitive city in 2024. The Consejo Privado de Competitividad and Universidad del Rosario released their annual Índice de Competitividad de Ciudades.

This report evaluates the competitive performance of Colombia’s 32 departmental capitals and 7 metropolitan areas. Bogotá secured the top spot with a score of 7.40 out of 10.

Medellín followed in second place with 6.73, while Tunja claimed third with 6.40. Cali and Manizales tied for fourth, both scoring 6.27.

The 2024 report revealed encouraging trends in urban competitiveness. Twenty-six out of thirty-two cities improved their overall scores compared to 2019.

This progress indicates positive development patterns and a narrowing of regional disparities. Inírida, Yopal, and Armenia showed the most significant improvements over the past six years.

However, some cities faced challenges. Leticia experienced the most substantial decline in its overall score since 2019. The gap between the highest and lowest-performing cities also widened slightly.

Colombia’s Urban Competitiveness

Yopal made a notable advancement, climbing three positions in the overall ranking. Florencia, Inírida, and Ibagué also improved their standings.

Conversely, Villavicencio dropped three positions, while Pasto, Sincelejo, and Mitú each fell one place. The bottom three cities in the 2024 ICC are Puerto Rico, Inírida, and Mitú.

These cities face significant challenges in improving their competitive performance. Andrés García-Suaza, Dean of Economics at Universidad del Rosario, highlighted noteworthy achievements.

Yopal received recognition for its overall ranking improvement. Bucaramanga earned praise for its focus on training and employment. Armenia was commended for its progress in basic education.
